Oil Filled Radiators vs. Other Space Heaters

If you’re looking for a way to stay warm this winter while still keeping your utility bills at a reasonable level, then space heaters can be the answer. The right space heater can keep the room you’re in at a comfortable level of warmth for you without raising your utility bills great deal. You can turn your whole house thermostat down and focus on heating just the rooms you use which will save you money. There are many different kinds of space heaters available today, but some have clear advantages over others.

The standard electric space heater has been a fixture in many homes for decades. Today’s models are much safer but they still have some clear disadvantages. Depending on the type you choose, they can be a serious fire hazard if they are too close to something that’s flammable, if they’re tipped over or if they overheat. They can also be dangerous around pets and children.

Halogen space heaters are an option that uses halogen elements to create heat that radiates out into the room. One of the biggest disadvantages with these heaters is that if you plan to use them at night while you’re sleeping, they do also light up the room a bit.

Oil filled radiators, like the Delonghi Safe Heat Radiator are sealed units that contain an oil that’s heated to a proper temperature. The unit cycles off and on, keeping the oil warm and allowing that heat to radiate out into the room. Because the unit doesn’t run constantly, it uses less energy and costs less to run. An oil filled radiator heater is also extremely safe because there’s no open flame or hot element that could catch something on fire. It won’t light up the room and is perfectly safe to use while you’re sleeping, making it a great overall space heater for daytime and nighttime use.

The difference with these products however is that they are not part of a central heating system but rather stand alone units. They range in price from down right cheap to actually quite expensive so depending on what style you are interested in, number of radiators you require and what brand you choose, the price can vary drastically. Oil filled radiator heaters are excellent home appliances that can effectively heat areas of your home during the cold seasons.

Oil filled heaters have some features that may make them a really attractive warming option for your home. If you have young children or pets, these types of radiators may be a safer option than other kinds of electrical heaters.

When compared to electrical heating appliances that have exposed heating elements this means that the danger level is lower AND there is less of a risk of fires. This is not the only positive safety feature that they have. If a radiator should somehow fall over, for example, by someone knocking it accidentally what happens is that the electrical power flowing into the radiator is automatically cut off. This means that a potential fire risk is negated. Also the internal thermostat will cut the power should the heater begin to over heat. Also, because a lot of oil filled radiators are portable it could be dangerous if we tried to move a hot unit but because the temperature of the external parts is kept at a safe level it is possible to touch and therefore move the heater even though it is still hot.

There are things that we can also do to avoid dangerous situations with our oil filled radiators. Many of this style of heating appliances is portable. We must be careful to ensure than any electrical heater to be used in the bathroom is actually suited for this use. Some of these radiators are able to be used safely in a humid environment. For me, oil filled radiator heating is the best option. I like the level of heat they produce and their safety features put my mind at ease.
